Wearing Statement Earrings the Right Way

They say that no fashion icon is complete without a killer set of fashion accessories. I, personally, am not big on fashion accessories. I tend to always opt for my simple jewelry, my Casio watch, my wedding bands and my Pandora bracelets. And by no means would I call myself a "fashion icon". Nevertheless, I know that fashion accessories are an area of fashion that I need to venture into and implement into my outfit posts on the Gram.

Following the great display at London Fashion Week, one of the biggest trends on show was "Statement Earrings". (If that is no message for me to do away with the simple everyday jewelry and up the Accessory game, then I don't know what is.) What was interesting to see was the variety of shapes, colours and sizes. I must be honest and say that I have admired this look on other people, and not necessarily been brave enough to pull this look off myself. I'm a simple stud girl.

But, if you can afford it and are ready to indulge in the statement earring, these top designers displayed the following for inspiration:

  • Versace - Gold was key and in all shapes and sizes;

  • Emperio Armani - big and bold (these earrings certainly can not be missed);

  • Moschino - bold and colourful;

  • Prada - summer objects such as sea shells (Prada is one of my favourite designers but I do not think I could pull off such shell earrings); and

  • Tods - Colourful Links.

If you're on a more sensible budget, these high street brands can offer the following alternatives:

  • River Island - Gold drops like Versace;

  • Zara - big and bold like Emperio Armani;

  • Accessorize - Bold and colourful like Moschino;

  • Anthropologie - Shell disks like Prada; and

  • Berkshka - Colourful Links like Tods.

So, Statement Earrings all purchased, the final step is putting them together with an outfit. I firmly believe that when one wears the statement earring, certain rules need to be followed to allow the overall look to appear elegant and not out of place or overcrowded.

  1. Colour Matching - let one colour from your clothing match the colour in the Statement Earring;

  2. Pattern on Pattern - When wearing a striped shirt, wear a similar coloured earring to one of the stripes;

  3. Bold Contrasts - select fun shaped earrings which can then work particularly well if you wear them alongside a solid coloured top or dress; or

  4. Neutral - often overlooked but wearing solid, gold coloured, larger sized earrings, with busier outfits, can help keep the outfit look overally toned down.

The above is to name a few rules and if you know of any more that could be shared, please detail them in the comment section below.
